How much gallery storage does a year of your work need?

Storage is the line that decides which gallery plan you actually need, and it is the one most photographers guess. The arithmetic is simple once you know four numbers: how many shoots you deliver, how many photos each one carries, how big each file is, and how long a gallery stays online before you archive it.

Facts and prices checked on 2026-09-03.

MB

Full-resolution JPEGs from a 24 to 45 MP camera usually land between 5 and 15 MB.

Assumptions behind the numbers

  • Only the files you upload count. Galerly generates the web-size and thumbnail versions itself and does not charge them against your storage.
  • A delivered full-resolution JPEG from a 24 to 45 megapixel camera is typically 5 to 15 MB; the default of 6 MB suits a 24 MP body at high quality. Change it if you deliver 45 MP files or web-sized exports.
  • RAW files are much larger (25 to 80 MB each) and are only relevant if you deliver them; the Business plan supports RAW delivery.
  • “Years online” is the retention you promise clients. Two years is common; archiving a gallery after delivery frees its storage.

Video changes the answer

Ten minutes of 4K at a typical delivery bitrate is 3 to 6 GB, more than an entire wedding in JPEGs. Enter your video per shoot in GB and the table shows both the storage fit and each plan’s video allowance, since Galerly limits video by minutes and quality as well as by gigabytes.

Frequently asked questions

Do originals and downloads count twice?

No. A file counts once, at the size you uploaded, however many times clients download it.

What happens when I reach the plan limit?

Uploads pause until you archive galleries or upgrade. Existing galleries stay online; nothing is deleted.

Where do the plan figures come from?

From the live pricing API, the same source as the pricing page, so they cannot go stale on this page.
